The Day Before Christmas

25 December, 2008 (00:45) | Poetry | No comments

My uncle Bruce and his girlfriend Alison who hosted Christmas dinner.
This was the first time I’ve ever attended Christmas with my family.
Forever the screwup, I tried to pickup Starbucks Gift Cards for my family on Erev Christmas. It wasn’t that I didn’t know what to get them, but that I was simply too [...] Read more »

A Valentine Treat for Those of You Sick of Valentine’s Day

An Ode to MacGyver

There I stood, weak and weary, my smile askew, though slightly cheery,
Carefully avoiding all the customers there in the store,
In front of me, it sat their waiting, the challenge very much sedating,
as the scale sat in parts spread across the storeroom floor.
“What the fuck are all these parts sitting on the storeroom [...] Read more »

Happenstance

21 March, 2007 (20:13) | Poetry | 3 comments

If we were to meet under different circumstances, would we still act the same way?
Would we lavishly clink our wine glasses by the fireside,
talking of Voltaire and the history of thought?
Would we glare at each other from our respective checkout lines,
each of us jealous of the other for being in the [...] Read more »

Tonight’s Entry: A Snorfleglorp of Rhyme and Meter

19 August, 2005 (00:08) | Poetry | No comments

“A snorfleglorp? What’s that?” you ask. A strange new word I shall unmask.
It means a lot, a ton or many; sometimes even more than plenty.
In the end, it is the dose of rhyme and meter in this post,
for I seem to be inspired to rhyme about events transpired.
The Moose, or Muss as is his name, [...] Read more »

I Lack Recourse

27 July, 2005 (00:12) | Poetry | No comments

I lack recourse.
No matter how much I may want change,
I can’t have it
because I lack recourse.
Try as I might–and I do:
I vote,
I protest,
I chant,
I sit in,
I complain,
I fight the good fight,
I picket,
I pump my fist in solidarity,
I throw my cobwebbed wallet around as it would make a difference, though it never does–
I lack recourse. Read more »

Iambic Pentameter is such a bitch….

11 April, 2004 (21:34) | Poetry | No comments

My week has been so full of strange strange things,
from Daylight Savings changes and no sleep
to opportunities in life’s upswing.
And so I look to take the next great leap.
Once again, Inquiring Minds was dumped
because of lack of guests, I hate to say.
I always seem to find one and get pumped,
to find that soon thereafter waits [...] Read more »

Just Another Melodramatic Sonnet

4 November, 2003 (03:07) | Poetry | No comments

A voice rings out from deep inside my mind;
the void outside is filled with errant thought,
its tendrils looping, dancing intertwined,
creating life in spaces where there’s naught.
I cannot stand the silent emptiness
that blinds my mind from restful solitude.
And so I let it wander and digress
on topics on which average men collude.
The moments which my soul finds [...] Read more »

Regrets

4 November, 2002 (22:27) | Poetry | No comments

Regrets are only as powerful as the wishes they supercede.
A regret should be much stronger when wishing away a deed.
And yet our hopeless inaction is what we regret the most,
For what would be more positive than of a deed to boast. Read more »
