Cheshire Dreams

30 June, 2008 (23:59) | Tattoos, Travelogue | 4 comments

Alice in Wonderland’s Cheshire Cat is an iconic image. Perhaps that’s why it didn’t really surprise me when Denise mentioned she wanted a tattoo of it on her. She certainly wouldn’t be the first person to get one. BMEzine.com has featured many Cheshire Cat tattoos, but we’ll get into the different variations later.
Of course, my [...] Read more »

Guam Doesn’t Have a Governator

29 June, 2008 (00:10) | Travelogue | No comments

Tonight’s sunset is brought to you by Guam’s Governor’s Complex, silhouetted in the background.

It was a rather uneventful day here. We woke up late, watched Hustle and Flow, and went snorkeling. My mask fogged up while in the water, so I tried to fix it and ended up [...] Read more »

Guns, Powder, and a Hospital

Gun Beach in Tuman features this warning sign not to spear fish. Normal fishing is ok, though.

Due to some strange antics last night, yesterday’s pictures are here a day late. I won’t be discussing the antics of yesterday or last night, but I will caption the following pictures [...] Read more »

I didn’t want to get up this morning. I suspect it was the days of rain keeping me in bed. Still, we had signed on for the hike and we weren’t [...] Read more »

The Village Idiot

The Chamorro Village in Hagåtña is considered an essential stop in Guam.
For more fuzzy pictures of Guam, click here.
One of the essential stops on any visit to Guam is the Chamorro Village. At least, that’s what I’m told. The pier in Hagåtña turns into a small festival with baubles, barbecue, dancing, and shows every Wednesday. [...] Read more »

Bag, Ma’am

25 June, 2008 (15:02) | Travelogue | No comments

Denise sneers about the bag stalls at a mall in Manila.
For all the bagalicious photos from the Philippines, click here.
Perhaps the people she’s been hanging out with were rubbing off on her. Or maybe she’s always been like that and I just hadn’t noticed. Whatever the reason, I was surprised at just how fashion conscious [...] Read more »

Stormy Weather

24 June, 2008 (23:37) | Travelogue | No comments

I awoke to the pitter patter of raindrops. They splashed against the tin roof, echoing gently down into my sanctum. I tried to ignore it, but even rolling over and hiding beneath the covers didn’t prevent its gentle cooing from rousing me.
“Ben,” Denise called gently from the doorway, the purring cat in her arms adding [...] Read more »

A storm rolls across the ocean just off Cetti Bay in Southern Guam.

When I knew I was going to be in Guam nearly two months, I had three goals in mind:

Learn to Surf — I’ve learned that surfing is difficult in Guam. Most of the beaches have a [...] Read more »

Denise sits in the kayak as I stand painfully on coral snapping a picture and trying not to fall.

The kayaking trip today was good. Unfortunately, it was also pouring. Apparently, there’s a typhoon in the Philippines currently. It’s so bad, it capsized a ferry carrying more than 700 [...] Read more »

Polaris Point

Polaris Point is sadly only accessible with military ID.

In the midst of the nearby Apra Harbor lies a man made peninsula known as Polaris Point. As we drove back from seeing Get Smart, Denise decided on a whim we should wander out to the beach to watch the [...] Read more »
