“You can be my wingman anytime.” “Bullshit! You can be mine!”
Last night, psychotik dragged me to a Cat-A-Tac show at the Larimer Lounge. She has a serious crush on Jim, the lead singer. Last week, I jokingly offered to hit on him to find out if he was taken for her, not expecting her to agree. Instead, she did. I’m still utterly amused by the exchange. So, after the show I approached Jim and made my move.
“Jim. I just wanted to say that was a great set.”
“Thanks, I appreciate that.”
“Hey, are you seeing anyone?” I asked. He took a deep breath, snickered to himself and rolled his eyes.
“Umm, that’s a really tough question to answer right now.”
“Cause I’m not gay, but I find you extremely attractive, and I’d seriously consider it for you.”
“Wow,” he responded, breaking into a wide grin. “That’s… that’s one of the greatest offers I’ve ever gotten.” I smiled at him, shyly looked at my feet to keep from bursting out laughing, and waited. “You know, I’m not gay either, but… uh… thanks.”
“It’s alright. It was a good show, man.” And with that I turned and walked away.
The upside is that it went rather smoothly and I don’t think I blew my cover, though you never know. The downside is that there wasn’t a definitive answer to give . Maybe next time.
