Very nicely done, my dear. Excellent argument, excellent research, and it sounds like an excellent chance that you'll get this dropped or at least reduced.

Good luck and let us know what happens!!!!

It's cool that you did so much research on Ladar guns and how they work. Though, I think a judge or jury will side with the officer or another prosecution witness who could give "expert" testimony about how unlikely it the possibility of errors caused by flaws mirrors, or the vibration of the engine, etc would be. I wouldn't focus on the possibility of those kinds of things happening -- you'd probably confuse and frustrate a jury and piss of any judge who thinks that ladar works well.

The only exception would be if you had a friend in the physics department or something like that who could lend some academia to your theory.

It seems a little more suspect that the officer uses a mirror to begin with -- seriously, what kind of bullshit is that? The narrative would go like this...

I'm sure all the police officers in Boulder have to have good aim, but when you're bouncing a laser off a mirror in dense traffic, can anyone be 100% all of the time when they try and hit a particular mark? Especially when getting the right mark means they have to bounce a laser off a mirror at a moving object in bright sunlight on a hot day? That would be hard to do in a physics labratory, let alone a on foothills parkway!

Then, I would call Larry as a witness and have him talk about what speed he though you were going, and testify to the grey van that tailed you and then whizzed passed you. Suggest the possiblity that the officer actually hit the van.

Anything to help establish that you're a safe, careful, and composed driver would be good too. Bring up your driving record, etc. Using Larry as a character witness in that respect would be good.

I'm not sure if you picked no jury, a three person jury, or a six person jury. I would have went with a three person jury. If there is a jury selection process, you should let me in on it because I'll get you a great jury. :)

Glad you found it interesting. When I started researching, I got really excited as I found my case getting stronger and stronger. I almost feel as though something is wrong since I'm excited for trial.
